Base Makeup Favourites!
Base makeup has always been my favourite step in my make up routine and think it’s a really important part of making any look, look flawless. I personally have very dry skin so like to use a very hydrating products. It’s important to take your own skin type into consideration when reading this post as everyone’s skin is different and products that work for me may not work for you.
Primers
For primers I like to alternate between the Revolution Glass skin Primer (£10) and the BECCA Backlight Primer (£28). Both primers are amazing and give a beautiful dewy finish to the skin, as mentioned before I have dry skin so both these products do well to hydrate my skin before foundation. The Revolution primer has more of an oily consistency compared to the BECCA primer which is more of a gel both of which look beautiful under foundation. Where the BECCA primer has more of a gel consistency I would say it has a better stay power and will keep your makeup in place for longer during the day, however the Revolution primer is almost a third of the price of the Becca primer and looks lovely in photos! Overall I love using both of these primers and would recommend them to anyone who has dry skin or prefer a dewy finish to their makeup
Foundations
For foundations my top 3 favourites are the NARS natural radiant long wear in the shade “Vanuatu” (£35), the EX1 invisiwear in the shade 5.0 (£12.50) and the Charlotte Tilbury light wonder in the shade 7 (£34). The NARS foundation is defiantly my favourite at the moment! It has a medium to full coverage but still looks natural and has a lovely glow to it, its definitely on the higher end price wise but if you love make up and have the extra money I would highly recommend. Next is the EX1 invisiwear, this foundation is a light to medium coverage and is great for everyday wear, it has a semi matte finish but still leaves a natural sheen to the face. This foundation is also very affordable and available in most drugstores. Last but not least is the Charlotte Tilbury light wonder which is more of a tinted moisturiser with a light to light/medium coverage, this is definitely one of the my holy grail products and is my go to in the summer or when on holiday when I don’t want to wear heavy make up but still want my skin to look fresh and glowy. Again this foundation is on the more pricey end but other than the price I can’t fault the product or the brand.
Concealers
My two favourite concealers are the Benefit Boi-ing Cakeless Concealer in shade 3 (£19.50) and the L'Oréal Infallible concealer in shade 331 (£9.99). I’m currently using both these concealers (although my all time favourite concealer is the NARS radiant creamy concealer) and am really enjoying them! I have L’Oreal concealer in a shade that matches my foundation as it has a thicker consistency and is perfect for covering any imperfections on the skin and I have the benefit concealer a couple shades lighter than my foundation as it is very brightening which is perfect for highlighting the face and brightening the undereye. Both concealers are great and I highly recommend them, however the Benefit concealer is double the price of the L’Oreal concealer which is something to bear in mind.
Cream Products
For cream contour I use the Revolution fast base stick foundation in the shade F13 (£5) for cream blush I use the Glossier cloud paint in the shade “Puff” (£15) and for liquid highlighter I use the Becca shimmering skin perfector in the shade “Rose Gold” (£30). The Revolution stick foundation is creamy and blends out beautifully and is great value for money and looks great under powders. The cloud paint from Glossier is one of my favourite products! It looks great on top of foundation or on its own when you don’t want to wear heavy make up and can be used as lip tint, it goes on creamy but dries down matte which gives a lovely finish. The Becca highlighter looks beautiful under foundation, mixed with foundation or on top for foundation (I usually use it mixed in with my foundation for an added glow) it’s quite and expensive product but a little goes a long way so has lasted me ages!
Setting Powders
My two go to everyday powders are the Laura Mercier loose setting powder in translucent (£32) and the Maybelline Fit Me! Matte and Poreless Powder in the shade 115 (£5.99). The Laura Mercier powder is perfect for setting undereye concealer and for baking different parts of the face, it gives the appearance of smoother skin, does not dry out my skin and leaves no flashback under the eyes so also looks good in photos. The Maybelline fit me powder is a great cheap option that also is great for setting the face, will help keep your makeup in place all day and smooths your skin.
Powders
For bronzer I use the Benefit Hoola caramel (£27), for blush I use the L'Oréal lifes a peach (£8.99) and for highlighter I use the BECCA shimmering skin perfector in champagne pop (£30). The Benefit Hoola caramel is my far one of my favourite products, I tried the original hoola bronzer years ago but never got on with it as it was very cool toned and I never could make it work, however the hoola caramel is a lot more warm toned and bronzes the skin perfectly! It’s very pigmented and blends out beautifully. The L'Oréal blush is the perfect peachy colour with a tiny bit of gold shimmer which gives your cheeks the perfect glow. The Becca highlighter blends beautifully in to the skin and has been my go to for years! (Another one of my favourites is the Jeffree Star Skin Frost in Siberian Gold).
